Buhala Lodge

Buhala Lodge is a privately owned five-star lodge situated on the southern banks of the Crocodile River, forming the southern boundary of Kruger National Park. Its location near Malelane Gate provides clients with immediate proximity to one of the park’s most game-rich areas, along with uninterrupted views across the river into the reserve. The lodge offers a selection of luxury en-suite rooms, including Standard, Kruger Park River Rooms, and exclusive Elephant Suites. All accommodations are air-conditioned and designed for comfort, with private patios, mosquito protection, and tasteful colonial-inspired décor. The Kruger Park River Rooms provide panoramic views directly over the Crocodile River.

Buhala Lodge features a full-service spa, an outdoor pool with deck loungers overlooking the river, and a well-rated restaurant offering daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A wine cellar, honesty bar, and high tea service further enhance the guest experience. The property is fully fenced and secured, with on-site staff available to assist with guest requirements and activity bookings. Agents can book guided open-vehicle safaris into Kruger National Park, private bush walks, birdwatching tours, or evening sundowners on the deck. The lodge can also coordinate tiger fishing and visits to nearby cultural attractions. The resident wildlife along the riverbank—including elephants, hippos, and buffalo—makes for rewarding armchair game-viewing.

Our Comments

June 2025 - I did a site visit at Buhala Lodge and can confidently say it’s an ideal partner for high-end golf and safari itineraries near Kruger National Park. The service is warm, attentive and professional from arrival to departure. Every room is spacious with river views, ideal for FITs and groups alike. The Elephant Suite offers excellent privacy. Leopard Creek access is easy, and Kambaku is a strong secondary option. Dining is outstanding, and authentic wildlife moments like elephants passing the deck at dinner add real value. The dining experience was a genuine highlight. While we had an early start and missed the main breakfast, the staff had a meticulously prepared breakfast box ready for us, which speaks volumes about their attentiveness to guests' schedules. For dinner, we had a choice between a roast quail and a fillet steak, and frankly, the entire three-course meal was fantastic from start to finish. Buhala consistently delivers the quality, comfort and reliability we need for top-tier clients. - Scott Edkins
