Our Comments

July 2025 - I’ve just completed a site inspection and walking safari at Safari Plains, and it offers a solid option for high-value safari and golf combinations. The lodge features 20 luxury canvas suites, all well-appointed and comfortably integrated into the surrounding bush. While the rooms are technically under canvas, they’re structured for comfort and blend beautifully with the natural setting. It’s important to note that the Big Five game drives take place in Mabula, not directly within the Safari Plains section. The lions are held within a 2,000-hectare camp, so sightings are controlled, and the overall game experience is somewhat similar to Gondwana—diverse but terrain-dependent. The reserve has a healthy population of rhino and a smaller number of elephant (about ten), so while game viewing can be challenging at times, it’s still rewarding. A standout feature is the guided bush walk, which we did over six kilometers this morning. The guiding was excellent, focusing on tracks, insects, plant life, and the smaller details that are often missed on drives—perfect for clients looking for more immersive experiences. Fly-in or road transfers are both feasible, and from here, clients can transition to golf or continue their bush experience elsewhere. We're actively working on packaging this with a private charter to Legends for those wanting to play the Extreme 19th. - Scott Edkins
